Louise's Charente Adventure: A place to share my adventures as I start up a new life in the Poitou Charente region of France.
My Story So Far...
I first started visiting France when I was 2 years old. My Mum and Dad loved the Cote d'Azur region and we spent 14 happy years holidaying in Frejus 2 or 3 times a year. I fell in love with the food, the people, the beaches, it was perfect! But then real life took over and as I grew up, I had to focus on exams, university, work...
It was my Dad's dream to move to France when he had retired but sadly he died suddenly back in 2003 when I was 16. It really motivated my Mum and I to make the most of life and when I was 21 and had finished university we decided to take the plunge and move from Yorkshire where I grew up, to France full time. There was no way we could afford to move to the Cote d'Azur so we settled on the lovely Languedoc Roussillon region, which had the perfect combination of lovely weather, beautiful cities and affordable property! We chose a big renovation project about 20 minutes from Carcassonne and spent a couple of years doing up the house. It was hard work but definitely worth it! I never imagined I would be spending my days helping builders to put up plaster board, designing kitchens and putting furniture together.
We really enjoyed 5 years here but have decided that we are ready to try a new adventure. We have just bought a house in the Charente, about 45 minutes from Angouleme. It is another renovation project ( I can't resist!) but on a much smaller scale. I will be sharing my progress on my Blog so you can all see the house evolve.
I’m certainly not a writer or travel guru but I really enjoy writing my Blog and sharing my thoughts with you all ( I try and make them as interesting as I can!!). I write about anything from art, my personal musings, fashion or sport.
Literally anything!
This website is for expats to network and meet other like-minded people. I don’t want people to move here and feel alone. There is always someone to talk to and offer advice.
I hope that you all enjoy the site. If you’d like to share some of your thoughts or ideas, please post them on the blog or contact me if you have
any questions: [email protected] and I will get back to you as soon as I can. Enjoy!
