Ruffec was one of the first towns we visited when we moved to the region last month. The highlight in the town is the Church of Saint-André. Built in the roman style the church dates from the 12th century ,although substantial alterations and additions were made in the 15th century - the carved decorative facade, featuring some inset statuary, is the oldest and most interesting part of the church.

There is a great weekly market which takes place on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday mornings. There is a range of produce, from fresh fruit and vegetables, fish , bread, cheese.. Lots of delicious smells to tempt you as you walk past.

It's then nice to go and sit in the cafe in the square ( as shown in the picture ). There is nothing I love more than to spend an afternoon drinking wine and people watching. I find it fascinating! We then usually end our outing at the Boulangerie where we are always tempted by the delicious pastries. Not good for the diet but they are too good to resist!

We found these lovely dried flowers in the market last week and they look lovely in our kitchen. Such gorgeous colours. I hope the stall is there on a regular basis as I would love to buy some more for our lounge when it has been renovated.

All in all, Ruffec is a great little town and you can spend a peaceful day exploring, with a  break for lunch or a drink half way through the day.
